Before each year of college, apply for federal grants, work-study, and loans with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form. Your college uses your FAFSA data to determine your federal aid eligibility and many states and colleges use FAFSA data to award their own aid.
A few items to remember:
- You must file a FAFSA for every academic year in which you intend to receive financial aid.
- New FAFSA applications open every year on October 1 and the application for that year closes June 30, approximately 21 months after it opens.
- The Texas priority deadline is January 15 each year.
- Financial aid is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis so be sure to file early.
