Emergency Vehicle Operations

Proper operation of an emergency vehicle is critical for police officers and public safety. In the Emergency Vehicle Operation course, participants become familiar with terminology, driving skills and liability issues that relate to the operation of a police vehicle. This 24-hour course includes hands-on driving exercises that will enhance an officer’s ability to operate a vehicle during an emergency situation by teaching personal and vehicle control limitations. To reduce agency liability, an advanced course is designed to train experienced instructors to deliver the Emergency Vehicle Operations course to their peers. This class is a realistic, high-stress, driving program that offers the participant 40 hours of actual driving time. The course curriculum has been designed with input from the Texas Municipal League – Intergovernmental Risk Pool training and risk reduction staff. Both courses meet Texas Commission on Law Enforcement requirements.
