BRYAN, Texas — Five current students from the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s College of Business at RELLIS are set to enroll in courses at the Texas A&M University Mays Business School Commercial Banking Program beginning this spring.
All five students are currently enrolled in business courses offered by A&M-Corpus Christi at the RELLIS Campus. Upon completion of their bachelor’s degree, the students will enroll in courses and work toward a Master of Financial Management degree.
“The admission of our students into the Mays Business School specialized master’s program will help prepare these five students for very successful careers in the banking industry,” said John Gamble, Dean of the A&M-Corpus Christi College of Business.
Nabhan Riaz, a College Station resident, was enrolled in accounting courses at Blinn College when he was approached by a recruiter for the RELLIS Academic Alliance. After attending an open house event and meeting with representatives from A&M-Corpus Christi, he enrolled in the Bachelor of Business Administration program at RELLIS. He is expected to complete his bachelor’s program this summer, but is already taking courses at the graduate school.
“My career goals include focusing on financial advising and specializing in Islamic financing, as there are unique rules in Islam when it comes to investing, financing, inheritance and other basic money related management,” said Riaz. “My time in the A&M-Corpus Christi program prepared me to enroll in the Mays Commercial Banking Program, which will allow me to work toward those long-term career goals.”
Emilio Salinas, a Houston resident, will complete his Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance this fall, but began taking classes at the graduate school this January.
“I plan to become a commercial lender at a financial institution, while also developing my own commercial real estate business,” said Salinas. “RELLIS provided an opportunity to not only earn my degree and join a vast A&M-Corpus Christi alumni network, but to now continue my education and expand my network with the Mays Business School.”
The agreement between Mays Business School and the A&M-Corpus Christi College of Business programs at RELLIS offers preferred admission to business majors with a 3.0 GPA or higher to the Commercial Banking Program. Each student interviews for an internship placement via the program’s member banks during the application and acceptance process to the program.
Nicolas Brock, Marquesha Ealoms, Antonio Moreno, Nabhan Riaz and Emilio Salinas will all complete internships at participating banks this summer while working to complete their Master of Financial Management degree.
Beginning fall 2018, degree programs have been offered at the RELLIS Campus by Blinn College and ten Texas A&M System regional universities. Each program at the RELLIS Academic Alliance creates a seamless pathway for students to earn a bachelor’s degree in a variety of related fields including criminal justice, business and health sciences.
