Texas A&M- RELLIS Administration Granted Beyond Visual Line of Sight Certificate of Waiver or Authorization, Paving the Way for Unmanned Operations

[Bryan, TX] – RELLIS is proud to announce that it has been granted a Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) Certificate of Waiver or Authorization (COA) by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This milestone achievement represents a significant leap forward in the possibilities of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and their applications.

The BVLOS COA provides researchers with the ability to conduct operations in a relevant and realistic environment to explore innovative solutions for both commercial and military use. This COA is a testament to RELLIS’s dedication to safety, innovation, and compliance with the highest industry standards.

The BVLOS COA effectively allows approved UAS to fly South from the RELLIS campus paralleling the Brazos River, over the Aggie Farm and Buffalo Ranch. The ability to operate UAS over longer distances provides RELLIS researchers a greater range of use cases for both UAS and CUAS applications.

Receiving a BVLOS COA underscores RELLIS’s position as a prime location for UAS research and testing. RELLIS is committed to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in support of unmanned aviation.

In addition to the BVLOS COA, RELLIS also possesses COAs for UAS use up to 1,000’ or over 55lbs, facilitating specific testing requirements.

“We are thrilled to receive this BVLOS capability, as it represents a significant achievement for the Texas A&M University System. This milestone highlights our desire to create a location allowing us to explore cutting-edge applications and better serve our researchers and the State of Texas. We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety and innovation as we continue to push the boundaries of both UAS and CUAS activities,” said Brad Hall, Associate Director of Operations.
