RELLIS Business Prof Wins Top Researcher Award

RELLIS Business Professor Dr. Katherine Taken Smith won the top award for faculty research excellence at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. She was presented the Excellence in Research and Scholarly Activity Award at the TAMU-CC Annual Islander Awards Celebration on May 6, 2022.

Dr. Smith is a nationally prominent research scholar. Her academic record includes over 70 refereed journal articles, 40 conference presentations, 8 books, and more than 10 awards and special recognitions for research. Most recently, she coauthored the Third Edition of Introduction to Global Business, published in 2022 by Cengage Learning.

Dr. Smith has significantly contributed to the marketing research literature, with widespread distribution of her research over many years. On Social Science Research Network (SSRN.com) she is ranked in the top 1 percent of authors, with over 15,000 article-downloads. Dr. Smith has built a prominent international reputation, via extensive references to her work by other researchers. Google Scholar lists over 3,400 citations to her work. Per Google Scholar, worldwide she is the 4th most cited professor who studies cross-cultural consumer behavior and 14th most cited professor who studies human trafficking.

Dr. Smith says, “I am much honored to receive this award. I am so thankful to be a professor and teach our wonderful students at the RELLIS Campus. I view research as complementing teaching, making me more knowledgeable and effective in the classroom, and enabling me to bring cutting-edge issues to my students.”

Dr. Katherine Taken Smith is an Associate Professor of Marketing at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and teaches on the RELLIS Campus. The Texas A&M University System RELLIS Campus in Bryan, Texas is a state-of-the art facility, featuring academic programs offered by Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, Stephen F. Austin State University, Tarleton State, and other Texas Universities. The universities have joined together in a unique, transformative academic alliance.
