Alexis Correa
Spring 2025 Graduate
Criminal Justice
After a childhood interest in crime TV shows, Bryan-College Station native Alexis Correa knew she wanted to serve her community through law enforcement. This led Alexis to pursue a Criminal Justice Degree from Tarleton State University at the Texas A&M-RELLIS Campus, where she recently graduated.
When Alexis began her journey at RELLIS, she was a quiet and reserved student. But the community at RELLIS helped her grow into an individual who thrives on being outgoing.
“My experiences at RELLIS have allowed me to grow into an individual who thrives on making connections with people on and off campus,” she said. “My favorite aspect of RELLIS is the community feel that is offered as it feels more personal compared to an experience of a big university.”
Alexis’ academic journey hasn’t been without its ups and downs. As a first-generation college student, she faced more challenges than the average student.
“As a first-generation college student, my biggest difficulty I’ve had to manage at RELLIS is balancing being a full-time student and working a part time job. Maintaining school and a job has helped me grow into someone who is determined, hardworking and dedicated.”
Going to school at RELLIS brought Alexis unique opportunities academically, as well as some lifelong memories.
“I got the opportunity to attend the American Academy of Forensic Science conference in February 2025 thanks to RELLIS,” she said. “But my favorite memory of RELLIS would have to be ring day! Receiving my ring, a symbol of my hard work and dedication, meant so much to me.”
Alexis’ professor, Dr. Shantol McIntosh, spoke highly of Alexis’ high level of academic excellence and commitment to her education. She also applauded how Alexis involved herself in the wider academic community.
“[Alexis] participates actively in class discussions, submits high-quality work, and consistently earns high grades. Notably, she took the initiative to engage in professional development beyond the classroom by attending an academic conference alongside Dr. Brown in this semester,” she said. “This level of engagement and responsibility reflects a growth-oriented mindset, setting her apart as a standout student among her peers.”
Alexis credited her parents for their help through her college experience and offered advice to future students.
“My parents have been my biggest supporters throughout my academic journey as they continue to remind me that hard work and dedication will pay off, no matter how hard the day is,” she said. “If I could tell a future student anything it would be, don’t be afraid to talk to people and be yourself!
Alexis hopes to work as a crime scene investigator after graduation.
